Bringing Baby Home - How To Get Your House Ready
There are plenty of things to prepare for before you bring your new baby home. Don\'t forget to get your house ready too. Here are a few things you can do to make your home a safer place.
Tie off or remove window blind cords. If left to hang down to floor level, they present a hazard to your child. Mount hardware to the wall next to your window and wrap the cords up.
Move hinged containers away from ground level. Anything with a heavy top can pinch or smash little fingers. Another option is to find furniture and storage that hold the lid in any position so it won\'t close on its own.
Use plastic covers over outlets. Outlet covers are available in several different styles and shapes and you can even find them to match your decor.
Identify and catalog which plants you have in your home. Some plants can be toxic if eaten so it\'s good to know what you\'re dealing with.
Use baby gates in front of stairs or other unsafe areas. You can also use them to keep kids away from pet doors, where they could get outside.
Keep toilet covers down to minimize the risk of drowning.
Set your water heater\'s maximum temperature By limiting how hot your faucets get, you\'ll reduce the risk of accidental scalding.
Some of these ideas are designed for when you child has grown a bit but it\'s good to get into the habit now. And it\'s amazing how quickly they grow older! You can never make a home 100% baby proof but these precautions will help remove some of the major risks.
