Why I Stopped Using Asthma Medications

Though it has been claimed there is no cure for asthma, and many an asthmatic will dare not leave their homes without their inhalers, I, a former asthma victim aim to prove both mind-sets wrong and reveal why I stopped using asthma drugs.

Having suffered from asthma personally from the age of 5 to about 7 years ago, I can say first hand that I strongly think most asthma medications just may not be worth the use.

As with most conventional drugs, when one truly considers the side-effects that the drugs may have, it makes one wonder if they are even worth being prescribed and used both by the medical fraternity and vulnerable patients. For asthma treatment, this is no exception.

Lets analyze the number one asthma treatment drug: Ventolin. As an inhaler or oral medication, it is arguably the most prescribed from of medication for asthma control. However, studies have indicated that this drug might actually cause more harm than good in regards to asthma treatment.

Now symptoms of these side effects do vary from patient to patient as no 2 humans are alike, nonetheless here are some of the side effects as revealed by research.

1. Shaking, usually of the hands (tremor)

2. Nervous tension

3. Headache

4. Faster than normal heart beat (tachycardia)

5. Awareness of your heart beat (heart palpitations)

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any of these symptoms.

For more information about any other possible risks associated with this asthma treatment medicine, you can always look at what the drug manufacturers have indicated on the package itself.

At this point, it leaves the question of what alternative treatments of asthma can be used and are there any at all.

Indeed there are and although thats another subject into itself, what worked for me (and is in effect in the \”Breath Retaining Program for Asthmatics\” developed by the Russian, Dr. Buteyko) was a drastic change in my diet, some mild breathing exercises as akin to Yoga (I picked this physical culture up as a therapeutic means of building fitness after years of having to be indoors) and other common sense methods such as avoiding excessive cold, dust and the like. However, the last steps are more of preventive measures more than anything.

Breathing is the very essence of living; asthma need not be a barrier any longer in your existence and you need not use side-effect laden drugs at that to curb it. There are successful methods of treating your asthma out there.

Home Remedies for Asthma to Prevent Asthma Attack

When it comes to asthma home remedies be careful about which ones you choose. If you are looking for natural home remedies on the net, be careful and study each one before attempting them yourself, look for testimonials from other asthmatics that have similar symptoms to what you may be experiencing. Another good tip to remember when trying to prevent attacks, is to try and cover you nose and mouth when going out into the cold air, because the cold air will likely cause symptoms for you.

Besides, it is a good idea to stay away from dairy products such as milk and cheese, because they can increase the amount of mucus that comes with an attack. Natural home remedies that actually work can be something that is hard to come by so do your research before trying any asthma home remedies.

Natural Home Remedies for Asthma

There are a lot of natural home remedies out there and finding the one that is both perfect for you and actually works can be a difficult experience, so here are some natural home remedies that might make that experience a little bit easier. Today one of the most popular natural home remedies for asthma would be honey. Yes, you read that right, regular honey right out of your kitchen! It is said that by smelling the honey it can actually reduce your symptoms.

A lot of people who suffer from nocturnal asthma know how difficult the night time hours can be, but vitamin C may very well be the answer. Vitamin C is said to help prevent those symptoms that occur during the night and early hours of the morning, so by taking vitamin C before bed could help reduce some of your night time symptoms. Sometimes out of all the home remedies there is just nothing better then good old-fashioned fresh air, simply setting outdoors can help reduce your asthma symptoms, but be careful to avoid dust and cold weather.

Garlic is also considered to be an effective part of the group of natural asthma home remedies. Another popular theory for curing or reducing symptoms would be to boil garlic in milk. This is said to help in many asthmatic symptoms. There are also many home remedies involving grapes this may sound a little strange but some people swear that it is effective. The theory is that you should soak fresh grapes with seeds, in water then place them in a cool place. Then chew the grapes before bed. This helps prevent symptoms. Again, none of these home remedies have been scientifically proven to be true. They are simply home treatments that others have tried. Some may work while others may not, it is up to you to decide for yourself if these treatments actually work.

Remember that if you are thinking about trying any of these, ask your local physician to see if it will be safe for you to try out these home remedies. Never forget that a lot of the home remedies for asthma out there today are just suggestions by people who have asthma or know someone with asthma. When you are looking for remedies online, be careful to choose web sites that are legitimate, and that provide facts about asthma and treatments. Be sure that the home remedies you try are all natural. So, play it smart and choose wisely when it comes to asthma home remedies.

5 Sure-Fire Ways to Control Asthma

Although asthma remains a serious disorder, scientific advances have improved the appreciation of the disease and its treatment. Start to improve your asthma condition from your home first.

Throughout the house

  • Keep humidity low 35% if possible, but in no case over 50%. Obtain a gauge to measure relative humidity.
  • Use an air-con or dehumidifier in the summer, with the windows closed. Dehumidifier must be emptied of water regularly. Air conditioners should be spray at the air intake with a mold killing spray if they develop a musty odor. Special filters can be added to help trap the airborne allergens.
  • If using a humidifier in the winter, avoid over humidification. Wash the humidifier and change the water frequently to prevent mold growth in the unit, occasionally cleaning the interior with a dilute bleach solution. Central humidifier is common sources of mold growth, and must be checked and cleaned frequently.
  • Very tightly insulated houses prevent the escape of moisture and thus encourage mold growth. Allow adequate ventilation.

In the kitchen

  • Use an exhaust fan to remove water vapor when cooking.
  • Mold can grow in refrigerators, particularly around the door gaskets. Empty water pans below self-defrosting refrigerators frequently, removing spoiling foods immediately.
  • Molds grow in garbage containers, which should be emptied frequently and kept clean.

In the basement

  • Use a dehumidifier. Correct seepage or flooding problems, and remove any previously flooded carpet. It a dirt floor is present, cover with a plastic vapor barrier.
  • Keep the basement free of dust, and remove moldy stored items. Avoid storage of any unnecessary items likely to harbor molds. Use paint with a mold inhibitor, especially on brick or cinderblock walls.
  • Allergic individual should avoid living in basement apartment or dormitories.

In the bathroom

  • Use an exhaust fan or window to remove humidity after showering.
  • Wash shower curtain, bathroom tiles, shower stall or tub, toilet tank and ceiling with mold killing and mold prevention solution.
  • Do no carpet bathroom.

Lemon Juice Therapy for Asthma Relief

If you just found out you have asthma or are a long time asthma sufferer, heres step one to start off on your natural remedy lifestyle to reducing and controlling your asthma.

Use of lemon juice has been found to have tremendous benefits in the body and of course for stopping and controlling asthma attacks.

So, step one is to use lemon juice every morning. Forget about the idea that lemon juice is acid and is bad for you if you have arthritis. Yes, lemon juice can cut into and breakup oil. But, when it enters the body as an acid, it ends up as alkaline residue after your cells use it up. Besides if you arent eating enough oils such as olive and fish oils this can contribute to the lack of oil to lubricate your joints and anti-inflammatory chemicals and this can accelerate the deterioration of your joint cartilage.

Step one for fighting back if you have asthma

Now, heres what you dont want to hear. First, do a two day fast using only water and lemon juice. Every morning after you get up, in eight ounces of distilled water, squeeze the juice of one organic lemon. Warm the distilled water slightly to give this drink extra energy and to reduce the work you body has to do to digest this drink.

Increase the power of this lemon drink

After your two day fast, continue drinking this lemon drink in the morning at least hour before you have breakfast. Now when you prepare this lemon drink add two teaspoons of ionic manganese. Heres where to read more about manganese: http://www.wateroz.com/minerals/Manganese.htm\r Then go to google and search for Wateroz ionic manganese

Manganese is known as the love mineral. If you have a lot of anger, hate, stress, depression, anxiety this can aggravate your asthma. Manganese will help to lessen these emotionally conditions.

After you drink this lemon juice, rinse out your mouth with distilled water so that the lemon juice acid will not affect the enamel on your teeth.

Super charge your lemon drink

Now, here is one more thing. Add one two tablespoons of liquid chlorophyll to your lemon-manganese drink. Now you have a drink that will help to detoxify your colon little by little. Toxins that get into your blood from your colon weaken the tissues in your lungs and bronchials. So, it is best to keep your blood clean.

There it is. This is just a start. Go out and get some organic lemons, do the fast, add some manganese, then some chlorophyll and see your asthma attacks lessen day by day.

Exercise Induced Asthma

A large number of people only get symptoms of asthma during or after physical exertion. They go up a flight of stairs, or go for a jog and become breathless.

The key point from this manual is that there is only one way to get asthma. And we know that that is to release more CO2 than we produce. This causes some of our air pipes to close to prevent further loss, and to relieve the shortage.

There is no other reason for your pipes to close up.

The use of bronchodilators before exertion is therefore now logically flawed. You do not need the drug if you can simply be more aware of the balance of your breathing gases.

First Step

In all physical activities, the rules of breathing remain the same.

1 You should breathe only through your nose.

2 You should never allow yourself to lose control of your breathing, and start .puffing or panting.. This will decrease your endurance, reduce your recovery rate, and also bring on your symptoms.

3 Do not consciously increase your breathing .to get more air as you begin any heavy exertion.

In many people the key time for exertion asthma is after the physical exertion has stopped. At this time, the production of CO2 has almost dropped to nothing, but the breathing is still going on as if the CO2 was \r still being produced at a high level. This means that more CO2 will be released than is being produced, and a defensive constriction will be needed soon.

The other time is a few minutes after starting the exercise. This is usually because the person has increased their breathing in anticipation. When you begin an exercise, take your time to get started. Do some shallow breathing during your warm-up, and pay special attention to keeping your breathing to only just what you need.

When you stop the exertion . Stop the breathing

When you get to the top of the stairs, reduce your breathing for a while. Go to moderate level shallow breathing. Suffocate for a little while. Trap in some extra CO2. Do not .puff.. \r If you tend to develop restriction during the actual exertion, be more aware of your breathing, make it a little less.

During the exertion, keep your mouth closed. If you get to a point where you want to breathe through your mouth . STOP, reduce your breathing, and continue only after your breathing is controlled.

Training Your Breathing For Exercise

It is simple to develop the situation where you never get puffed or out of breath.

The rules are clear.

Start off slowly at low intensity, such as a walk or march.

Your mouth must be closed, and you should develop a very tiny shortage of air by shallow breathing. [This is very easy when you are walking]

If you start to feel you need to gasp through your mouth, you must stop immediately, reduce and control your breathing, and only then continue.

Over a few sessions you will find that you can go further and further without getting puffed. When you can proceed at that intensity for over 15 minutes, you can raise the intensity slightly, but follow the same rules.

Within a few weeks your endurance will have greatly increased, and you will able to train easily with your mouth closed, and not get out of breath.

It will only work if you stop just before your lose control of your breathing.

If you are a serious or professional athlete, you will know that races or games are won or lost at training. Combine your new knowledge with your training sessions. It will mean reducing the intensity at first so that you will be able to exert with your mouth closed. It takes a very short time [a couple of weeks] to reach the point where you can apply your full physical force without having to open your mouth for extra air. You will then notice a vast improvement in your endurance and recovery.

But during training you must stop and reduce your breathing immediately you start to feel the urge to gasp. During your match or contest do everything you must to win. When you get the chance to recover, reduce your breathing rather than do deep breathing. Suffocating a little tiny bit will release more oxygen to your muscle cell and allow you to recover faster. \r Close your mouth and never\r allow yourself to puff and pant

Warning Signals and Diagnosis of Asthma

Asthma is said to be more loyal than a wife. She may divorce you, but asthma usually does not. Such is the lingering characteristic of the disease.

Allergy and bronchial asthma are closely related. In an attack of asthma, as a result of allergy, there occurs an inflammation of the airways. Thus a swelling/narrowing of the airways manifests itself as a result of this inflammation.

The three notable early warning signs/symptoms are: cough, tightness in the chest / breathlessness and wheezing (whistling sound caused by difficult breathing through narrowed airways as a result of their inflammation / swelling). But these early warning signals are usually ignored by the patient. Since an early attack of asthma may pass off rapidly, and the patient feels normal in between the attacks, the physician is usually not consulted until the disease is at an advanced stage, when the patient feels marked breathlessness frequently. When the attack persists for hours, it is called status asthmaticus, which is a dangerous stage, and may prove fatal for want of emergency medical aid.

We cannot blame the patient either, because in early cases, after a little discomfort, i.e. cough and tightness in the chest for a while, the patient seems to get well even without medication and he/she hardly feels the need for consultation or treatment. This mild discomfort may not occur for several days/months. In children, these symptoms may appear only after exercise, and the disease is not suspected by the parents, because following some rest, the child usually becomes free of the symptoms.

Hence the disease is highly unpredictable. However, those who have a family history of asthma, those who are heavy smokers, and those working in dusty places or in flour / saw-mills, bakeries, wheat/ plastic / paint / cotton/ glue industries, etc., must be alert, and keep in mind the early warning symptoms of asthma, for immediate medical attention. In some cases, there may be only a seasonal allergy, i.e. the patient gets attacks of asthma during a particular season only, as for instance, during the months of harvesting, threshing, etc.

Once the disease is suspected and the patient reports in time; there is no difficulty in establishing a diagnosis of asthma. But another difficulty can arise. It is invariably seen that the underlying root-cause (allergen) responsible for the recurrent allergy of the airways, causing an inflammatory response in the airways, cannot be easily detected. Various skin tests for the detection of allergy have proved to be of limited value. Therefore, one has to be on drugs which give only temporary relief, and the patient is often dependent on drugs for his or her entire life. Such cases are usually perennial, i.e., they get attacks of asthma throughout the year. As soon as the drug is stopped, the patient gets an attack of asthma. This is agonizing for any person, irrespective of age.

A good deal of research work is being carried out all over the world to overcome this chronic disease of the respiratory tract, so as to give a permanent relief / cure to sufferers.

Asthma Disease

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that makes the bronchial airways particularly sensitive to irritants such as air pollution. Asthma is characterized by attacks of breathlessness, tight chest, wheezing and coughing which are caused by the airways becoming narrowed and inflamed. Some people may have these symptoms all of the time and others may be normal between attacks. Asthma sign and symptom vary from person to person. It may appear suddenly, or they may occur regularly. Asthma cannot be cured, but most people with asthma can control it so that they have few and infrequent symptoms and can live active lives.

Asthma is generally broadly classified to be of two types:

1. Extrinsic

-is caused by this type of immune system response to inhaled allergens such as pollen, animal dander or dust mite particles.

2. Intrinsic

-can be triggered by infection, exercise, or drugs such as aspirin.

What Causes it?

Asthma attacks can be caused by many things like exercise, cold air, allergies, and breathing in certain chemicals. A person having an asthma attack should use an inhaler or go and see a doctor for a prescription. The best known inhaler is a canister that delivers a metered dose. Asthma is treated with two kinds of medicines: quick-relief medicines to stop asthma symptoms and long-term control medicines to prevent symptoms.

The main cause for asthma in humans is allergy due to breathing of impure air. The air purifiers alleviate asthma and can totally remove the carriers of asthma allergies by providing superior quality of air to breathe. They improve the life span of asthma patients by filtering the smoke in the room, reducing the dust particles floating in the air and other contaminants.

Some foods can provoke attacks by causing an allergic reaction. At the same time Food can also help to control the severity of an attack.

Asthma diet must include pasta, bread, muffins, eggs, cheese, yogurt, beef, poultry, salads, and fruits. Drink coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Avoid alcoholic beverages because this will only make you sick.

Are You Scared to Make Love Because of Asthma?

With all the kissing, embracing, sensuous motions and the climaxing involved, sex does involve a lot of heavy breathing. This, as enjoyable as it may be, does dry out the airway passages and if one partner in a love-making session is asthmatic, sadly this could aggravate an attackand, well end the fun stuff.

So whats a couple to do?

Certainly, you dont have to be celibate or have boring, heavily restricted sex, in due course we shall go over some helpful suggestions.

Now, for asthma patients, attacks induced by physical activities that involve heavy breathing are quite common. Needless to say, the general advice is to avoid these activities; however, a relationship where sex is avoided is bound to put a burden on both parties and inevitably may very well end it.

As a result to prevent a relationship going sour from no love making due to asthma, here are some tips to look into.

First, change your diet.

I cant stress that enough and if you want to keep the sex going in your relationship and more importantly improve your health, you will do well to heed that advice. You have got to give up all processed foods and animal products such as meat, milk, eggs and the like from your diet-plain and simple. These are mucus forming foods and we all know what one physical characteristic of asthma symptoms are: Mucus.

This is a fact that has been in effect in several programs aimed at correcting respiratory health such as the \”Breath Retaining Program for Asthmatics\” developed by the Russian, Dr. Buteyko. Within weeks of adhering to his advice, many a chronic asthmatic has been able to give up the use of ventolin inhalers.

Replace these items with mucus binding or non-mucus forming foods. These are quite simply fruits and vegetables. Make sure they are organic if possible or at least not in the list of the dirty dozen i.e. the ones most contaminated with pesticides such as Apples, Mexican Melons, Grapes etc

Trust me on this; Im speaking from experience, you will do very well to avoid the fruits in that list when it comes to asthma. Nonetheless youd still be much better off steering clear of those food substances labeled as mucus-forming earlier on.

In addition, from my own experience, DO NOT CONSUME LIQUIDS WITH YOUR MEALS AT ANY TIME. This inhibits digestion by diluting the necessary juices in your stomach designated for that purpose. As a result, it hinders the much needed expansion of the diaphragm and consequently a constriction of the lungs- the bellows of life giving air- which results in the wheezing sounds any asthma patient is familiar with.

This dietetic change will help lay the foundation for the next factor which is to get back in shape. Perhaps the best choice for doing this may be Yoga.

There are specific yoga poses that target asthma owing to the effect of their positioning in regards to the airway passages. They include the Shoulder Stand Poses, The Fish Pose, the Head to Knee Pose and the Bow Pose. They are all very, very simple and it just dawned on me that each of these co-incidentally is useful for toning the organs used for sex!

Yogas Sun Salutations are also very useful for correcting breathing, mildly exercising the entire body and restoring flexibility and fitness. (Need I mention these are two factors needed for love-making?)

For simple calisthenics, you can look into doing some reps of Hindu Squats and Hindu Push-ups. Both are extremely effective for attaining improved breath control and are total body workouts into themselves. Just dont worry about doing too many of them, if they are demanding, you can do fine with the yoga mentioned and of course you dont have to count out walking, dancing and hiking. (This is in the hopes that your dietetic habits are changed as suggested.)

Other simple steps to curb the effect of Asthma in your love life are to:

1. Avoid excessive temperature changes

2. Ensure dust mites are reduced as much as possible in your home

3. Use a humidifier in the cold seasons.

4. Of course, not have sex right after meals(not even about asthma here folks)

5. Keep fresh air circulating in the rooms at home as much as possible.

Things may not change overnight, nothing that drastic does; however, with these simple steps, in a short time, being hindered by asthma in regards to expressing love through sex will be a thing in the distant past.

Heres to free breathingand hopefully a happier relationship.

Symptoms Of Asthma

Once you have been diagnosed with asthma, you will suffer from the disease for the rest of your life. There are medications and other treatments that exist that can help to alleviate your symptoms. However, you will always have to be aware and watch for symptoms that the disease may be flaring up. Your life could depend on it. Determining if you are suffering from this disease often requires the diagnosis of a nurse practitioner at a Wills Point health clinic.

Many of the symptoms of asthma that a Wills Point resident may suffer from are related to their breathing. This is the very nature of the disease. A nurse practitioner at an east Texas health clinic will be able to tell you what to expect and what to watch for as symptoms of distress. Trouble breathing is the most common symptoms that one will likely suffer from. Whether you have trouble breathing each and every day or if it is just when you physically exert yourself, you will need to make sure that you medicate yourself appropriately as the nurse practitioner prescribes.

Before you actually get your diagnosis from a nurse practitioner at a Wills Point health clinic, you will likely experience other symptoms that are a result of not being medicated. You may notice these symptoms daily or they may come and go. Trouble breathing is not the only problem to look out for. When this disease is uncontrolled, you may find that you are tired every day. This is usually as a result of trouble sleeping. Trouble sleeping is often the direct result of being unable to breathe properly. You may also be moodier because of this lack of sleep. Many people do not recognize these as symptoms of asthma.

It is important for anyone who experiences things that are out of the ordinary for a long period of time to visit a

href=\”http://www.countryside-clinic.com\” target=\”_blank\”>Wills Point nurse practitioner

to determine the cause of these symptoms. There are many symptoms of asthma that many people do not realize are a symptom of the disease. It can be perfectly normal for a person to have an off day in terms of how their body works but if something is off in the long term, it is best to be checked out to receive a proper diagnosis as soon as possible.
