What Are Good Batting Gloves For Baseball Drills?
For anyone doing baseball drills, it is a known fact that equipment is a necessary requirement in order to compete. For those who are serious about the game of baseball, good batting gloves for baseball training and in your baseball drills is a key piece that every player needs when behind the plate.
Batting gloves have been around for many years, but have not been very popular until more recently. The idea behind the batting glove is that it helps to take any sting out of the hands from hitting the ball, to provide a better grip on the bat and to help prevent blistering from continuously swinging a bat. Typically, in the earlier days batting gloves were made from thin leather, while these days they are designed not only to help with gripping the bat, but also to provide protection from the bat and from sliding into a plate.
It is not known exactly when the batting glove first came about for regular usage, but it has been thought that Bobby Thompson of the New York Giants was the first player to use batting gloves in a spring training game in 1949. From there, Ken Harrelson was documented in 1964 for wearing batting gloves during a regular season game and Rusty Staub continuously wore them during his games when he played for the Montreal Expos.
Some players may find that using their batting glove inside of their catching mitt also provides comfort and ease for being out in the field. Having the extra protection for catching that stinging ball or gripping will make all the difference on the field when you are active. Although there are many benefits to having a batting glove both behind the plate and out in the field, there are still a number of baseball players who prefer to go without a batting glove. It is all personal preference and some may find that the glove hinders the feel of the bat in their hands as they get ready to hit.
There are a number of manufacturers today that produce batting gloves in all styles and sizes for everyone. They can be bought to reflect individuality of the player themselves since color and style is apparent when sporting gloves. Depending on the style and color you choose, the cost of your batting glove can range anywhere from $10-50 for a pair.
A good batting glove should conform to your hand, with a comfortable fit and include a wristband in order to ensure a proper fit. Many will have padded, heavy-duty leather palms in order to be sustainable for many uses during your baseball drills They will need to be kept clean by putting them out to air after each usage in order to eliminate any damage to the leather from being stored incorrectly.
With any baseball drills a coach may require that all his players utilize batting gloves in order to keep the hands warm and provide protection for the players. During baseball drills, a player may be required to continuously swing a bat and a set of good gloves will help protect those hands from blistering so that the player can continue to train and develop his or her skills accordingly.
